Canadian band Basement Revolver released a new single this past week called “Baby”, which is the first song off their forthcoming, debut record Heavy Eyes. The new album will follow up the band’s two EPs; Agatha, which was released this past year and their self-titled EP that came into the world in 2016.
The first offering relays what happens when you don’t know what you’re doing or what you want and how to operate with that anxiety- a set of feelings that we’ve all had to cope with at one time or another. It recognizes the value of patience and having somebody reside in your corner during the hard times. The dreamy ballad is rooted in poignant, lush arrangements that complement lead singer Chrisy Hurn’s swelling, atmospheric vocals, and honest songwriting.
The Ontario trio’s infectious, resonating sound is distinctive in its own right but brings to mind bands like Faith Healer, The Orielles, and Alvvays. While “Baby” will have to hold us over for now, we can’t wait to hear the whole record upon its release.
