Miranda Winters may best be known as the frontwoman of Chicago noise rock band Melkbelly, but the guitarist/vocalist has embarked on a solo project under her own name. Stepping back from the Marissa Pasternoster-esque growl displayed on Melkbelly’s work, on lead single “The Futuristic District” Winters sings in a noticeably more poppy, yet slightly off-kilter register.

While not over the top, Winters’ cadence and distinct songwriting style are enhanced by the distinct lack of other instruments. Fuzzy guitar work leads the way in hand with Winters’ vocals, and at first listen it feels as though an instrumental explosion is right around the corner.

Stream single “The Futuristic District” below, lead track from Winters’ upcoming solo release, Xobeci, What Grows Here?, out on June 16th on Sooper Records.
